Allen rebounds with win

From Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada

ASHCROFT, BC – The V-Rod Destroyer racers ran round four last Sunday at the Sturgis North Nitro Nationals event at Eagle Motorplex in Ashcroft, BC. The Western Series continued to evolve with Redline Harley-Davidson-sponsored racer Nick Allen scoring an important win to regain a tenuous control in the west.

In the first round of eliminations of the Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada-sponsored V-Rod Destroyer Drag Race Series, Allen did what he had to do with a bye and single pass down the Eagle Motorplex drag strip, running a very average ET of 9.764 and a top speed of 136.57 mph.

Next up was Edge Harley-Davidson-rider Jamie Moench paired off against Redline Racing & Volution Tune-sponsored Chris Perkins. Moench got off a great jump at the tree and Perkins had an uncharacteristic slow run, with an ET of 10.028, relegating the young Allen protégé to the sidelines.

Rick Adams then had a good battle with Mike Evanyshyn, barely beating him out, and allowing Adams, the second Edge Harley-Davidson-rider, to move on.

Shaun Rude had his hands full with Kelly McCuaig, but when the lights flashed at the finish it was Rude with a narrow margin of victory, over the Harley-Davidson/Buell of Prince George rider.

In round two of eliminations Allen lined up against new upstart, Edge Harley-Davidson rider Moench, and this time Allen made no mistake, edging Moench out with a creditable 9.654 ET and a top speed of 137.13 mph.

Adams had to pull out all the stops in his semi-final match against Heritage Harley-Davidson and Harley-Davidson/Buell of Grand Prairie-sponsored Rude. In one of the closest battles of the day, Adams beat out a hard-charging Rude with an ET of 9.741, against Rude's 9.731, earning Adams a chance to unseat the reigning champion, Allen.

In the final run of the event, the unflappable Allen faced off against Adams. Both riders charged off with almost identical reaction times, but Allen made the better drive down the track to take the win with an ET of 9.657 and a top speed of 137.93 mph, against Adams' 9.714 and 135.44 mph. With this win, Allen looks likely to regain control of the series.

The next event for the Western contingent of the Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada-sponsored V-Rod Destroyer Series will be held on Aug. 6-7 at the MHDRA Drag Strip in Medicine Hat.
