CANADIAN MOTORCYCLE DRAG RACE ASSOCIATION – WESTERN SERIES ROUND FIVE Allen on Top Again

From Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada

MEDICINE HAT, Alberta (August 11, 2011) – MHDRA Drag Strip

Questionable conditions for Saturday’s qualification rounds were cause for concern in the penultimate round of the Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada-sponsored V-Rod® DestroyerTM Western Series, and all of the competitors struggled with setting up in the thick humid air.

In the first rounds of qualifications, the Redline Harley-Davidson®-sponsored series leader, Nick Allen, seemed to have the most control over the circumstances with creditable runs in the mid nines. The rest of the competitors were knotted up together, with each of them making comparable runs in the nine eights.

The weather improved for Sunday’s finals, as did the times. In round one of eliminations, Harley-Davidson®/BuellTM of Prince George-sponsored Kelly McCuaig lined up against Nick Allen. Allen continued his torrid pace with a great run of 9.5461 against McCuaig’s 10.07, and sent McCuaig to the sidelines. Next up was Edge Harley-Davidson® rider, Rick Adams, against Redline Harley-Davidson®/Volution Tune-sponsored Chris Perkins. Adams had a brilliant start with a reaction time of .008 and an ET of 9.66, and got the advantage over Perkins, ending his challenge. Edge Harley-Davidson®-sponsored rising sensation, Jamie Moench, had a close battle with Jeff Pitre who rides for Harleys Hardrock Saloon. The two had a close battle, but it was Moench with a narrow margin of victory at the end for the win and a chance in round two of eliminations.

In round two of eliminations, Nick Allen enjoyed a bye run and had a leisurely cruise down the strip with an ET of 9.623 and a top speed of 138.76 mph. Next up were the two Edge Harley-Davidson® riders who had to settle up for bragging rights and a chance to go into the final. Moench had a brilliant reaction time of 0.009, but Adams gave it everything he had. Both riders crossed the finish line simultaneously; however, Adams had just enough jump to displace Moench by 0.032 of a second, for the win.

In the day’s final event it was points leader, Nick Allen, lining up and perhaps closing the book on another championship season. With lane choice and the upper hand, Allen made no secret of his intentions and got a good start at the light. Adams was maybe a little over exuberant and jumped the light, giving the win to Allen, who needed no help as he made his best run of the weekend with an ET of 9.573 and a top speed of 139.28 mph. This virtually ensures that Allen will once again represent the West in the final event of the V-Rod® East vs. West challenge at Castrol Raceway on September 10 and 11.

With only one round to go, only time and luck will tell if either of the Edge Harley-Davidson® riders, Rick Allen or Jamie Moench, can make up the points difference and dethrone the king!

The next and final event of the Western V-Rod® DestroyerTM Series will take place at Mission Raceway in Mission, British Columbia, on August 20 and 21.
